From Work to Wonder: Crafting Your Personal Sanctuary

Well, it’s easier to say, “Enjoy your work and you will never be working again.” It’s fiction for most people; not everyone has the leisure of doing that. The reason is not important; what’s important is then what to do.

I would say you need to have your own sanctuary where you can explore, let your curiosity take you places, learn, and build something that’s meaningful to you. You can be yourself or anyone you like; there are no boundaries, no conditions (other than those that will keep you alive). The idea is to become a baby without any negative emotions — just enjoy the experience.

Now, comes another problem. Well, it sounds nice, but how can I make my own sanctuary, you ask? The simple answer is to experiment.

1. Increase your exposure to new experiences.
2. Observe what inspires you. How would you know? You will have an urge to do it.
3. Let that urge grow and consume you. Don’t plan too much; just start with what you have.
4. Observe if you’re enjoying it. When you were indulged, was this world non-existent for you? Do you feel joy? Will you make an extra effort to experience it once more?
5. If your answer to all the questions is yes, then you have it; otherwise, start from point 2 again.

We all need a place like this, and if we have it in our day-to-day lives, then we will have more willpower to do what needs to be done in other parts of our lives.

If you ask me what’s the end game here, my answer would be to productize it. Once you have the sanctuary, start experimenting with how it can be transformed into something for which someone is willing to pay.

Before you think this is rubbish, check out the gaming industry revenue; it is more than the movie and music industry combined.

Once done, the statement will be true for you too: “Enjoy your work and you will never be working again.”

Have fun.
