It's crucial to emphasize the necessity of an analytic layer for your product - it's non-negotiable. Imagine without it you're trying to navigate a battlefield. You are unaware of troop movements or remaining ammunition. Can you ever win this war?

The importance of this layer cannot be overstated.

While the initial challenge lies in selecting the appropriate tool. More questions arise: Which actions should be tracked? Do we require event tracking, recordings, or heat-maps? How should these events be structured? What level of automation is optimal? What appears straightforward initially quickly evolves into a web of decisions.

Navigating this process can feel disorienting at the outset. The key is to streamline implementation.

The solution? Focus on capturing data that directly addresses your pressing questions. Adopt a lean approach instead of attempting to capture everything at once. Begin by capturing just enough data to address immediate inquiries. Then expand it gradually as needed.

Engage with product stakeholders to determine their information needs. Compile a comprehensive list of questions prioritizing them based on importance and feasibility. Then proceed with execution.
